What makes our elbow service different
Elbow rehabilitation within our Fareham clinic is delivered by Band 8–level specialist physiotherapists working at advanced clinical level within the NHS and private practice.
Band 8 physiotherapists represent the highest level of advanced clinical practice within the NHS, involving complex diagnostic decision-making, management of persistent or post-operative conditions, and close collaboration with medical and surgical teams.
Many individuals attending for elbow pain have already completed general exercise programmes without lasting improvement. This is rarely because the tendon or joint cannot adapt. More commonly, the loading strategy has not been sufficiently specific.
Specialist evaluation examines how your elbow behaves under load — including gripping force distribution, forearm rotation control, shoulder contribution and nerve sensitivity.
Rehabilitation is structured around tissue behaviour and graded load exposure.
For tendon-driven presentations, progression restores tensile capacity while refining load distribution across the upper limb. In nerve-related presentations, management addresses sensitivity and mechanical interface without provoking unnecessary flare. In joint-related pain, rehabilitation focuses on restoring movement quality and improving load tolerance within safe parameters.
Programmes are individualised. Progression is guided by response to load and 24-hour symptom behaviour rather than fixed timelines.
Care is guided by advanced clinical reasoning and specialist experience rather than protocol-driven or generic rehabilitation approaches.
Where appropriate, we can:
• Request and interpret X-ray, ultrasound or MRI to clarify structural findings
• Correlate imaging with mechanical behaviour so decisions are based on the full clinical picture
• Use injection therapy selectively when irritability is limiting rehabilitation progression
This integrated approach supports durable recovery and confident return to work and sport.
