Book with Mike

Mike Gillingham is a Specialist Physiotherapist with over 15 years of NHS musculoskeletal experience, specialising in shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand conditions. He qualified with a First-Class BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy from Oxford Brookes University in 2008 and has spent the past seven years working in a Clinical Specialist role dedicated to complex upper limb conditions. He is a registered member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) and the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Alongside his private practice, Mike works within the NHS as a Lead First Contact Practitioner, overseeing physiotherapy services across three GP practices. This role involves advanced assessment, diagnosis, and management of a wide range of musculoskeletal presentations, ensuring patients are guided towards the most appropriate care pathway. He has extensive experience in specialist assessment and diagnostic clinics, as well as post-operative rehabilitation for orthopaedic and plastic surgery patients.

Mike has advanced skills in differential diagnosis and rehabilitation and holds MSc qualifications in Injection Therapy. He has also completed advanced training with the British Association of Hand Therapy, further enhancing his expertise in managing complex shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand conditions and providing additional pain-relief options when appropriate.

What do I enjoy treating?

"I have a particular interest in elbow conditions including tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, nerve-related pain, and post-surgical rehabilitation

I also enjoy managing shoulder conditions such as rotator cuff–related pain, frozen shoulder, shoulder instability, and post-operative rehabilitation following shoulder surgery.  I work closely with the hand and plastics surgeons and my specialist work extends to wrist and hand conditions such as tendon injuries, nerve compression, and arthritis, as well as post-operative rehabilitation following orthopaedic or plastic surgery, using tailored, progressive programmes to restore strength, confidence, and functional movement."

A bit about me

"Outside the clinic, I spend a lot of time on my bike — whether that’s cycling with my family or competing in racing. Staying active plays an important role in my own wellbeing and helps me understand how frustrating and limiting pain can be when it interferes with everyday life, work, or sport.

I bring that understanding into my clinical work and genuinely enjoy helping people return to the movement they need and love, using a calm, structured, and supportive approach."
