Mike Saegert is a Specialist Physiotherapist (Band 8a NHS) with nearly 20 years’
experience, initially graduating from St Marys University with a BSc Honors in Sports
Rehabilitation 2003 and then subsequently a MSc in Rehabilitation Sciences at Brighton
University in 2007. He’s been a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists since
2005 and Health Care Professions Council since 2007.

Alongside his private practice, Mike works full-time in the NHS working as a MSK Specialist
Physiotherapist in Spines, Hips and knees. He works In Orthopaedics in Acute Knee Clinic
at PHU supporting the Orthopaedic Consultant with an expert knowledge of physiotherapy to
ensure the correct pre/post-surgical management and rehab is provided for patients.

In his MSK Physiotherapy Specialist role, he provides expert diagnosis and assessment
skills as well as requesting diagnostic imaging and providing interpretation of XR/MRI scans
for Spines/Hips and Knees. He routinely refers patients to Orthopaedic surgeons for surgical
opinions as well as presenting patients to Spinal Surgeons and Pain Clinic Consultants for
injection/surgical intervention.

Mike has many years’ experience assessing and treating a wide range of spinal, hip and knee conditions, including persistent pain, sports injuries and complex musculoskeletal problems. He combines skilled manual therapy, where appropriate, with evidence-based, up-to-date rehabilitation tailored to each patient’s needs, goals and lifestyle.

Mike also has extensive experience supporting patients before and after spinal, hip and knee surgery. This includes rehabilitation following spinal decompression and fusion procedures, ACL and other ligament surgery, meniscal and cartilage repairs, and total hip and knee replacements.

He completed his MSc module in Injection Therapy in 2016 and has been competently
injecting hips and knees for over 10years. He has also completed other MSc modules in
History Taking and Physical Assessment across the lifespan and Diagnostic and Decision-
Making in 2022 and 2023 respectively, which have significantly enhanced his
assessment/treatment skills.

What do I enjoy treating?

"I have a particular interest in working with people who have complex or persistent spinal, hip or knee symptoms, especially those who have not improved with previous treatment or who may be considering injections or surgery.

I particularly enjoy unravelling complex presentations where the source of someone’s symptoms is not immediately clear. This may include determining whether pain is arising from the hip or the spine, or distinguishing between symptoms originating from the shoulder and those referred from the neck. Through a detailed assessment, I aim to identify the most likely cause of the problem and help patients understand what is happening.

A key part of my role is helping patients make sense of their symptoms, scan findings and treatment options. I specialise in assessing complex clinical presentations, determining whether further investigations are clinically appropriate and developing a clear, individualised treatment plan. Helping someone move from uncertainty or fear towards confidence and a structured way forward is something I find incredibly rewarding.

I place great importance on taking the time to listen to each person and understand their goals, concerns and what matters most to them. Creating a calm and supportive environment, where patients feel reassured, informed and involved in decisions about their care, is central to how I work.

I am passionate about helping people return to the activities that are important to them, whether that means sport, hobbies, work or simply enjoying everyday life with family and friends.

A bit about me

"As I’ve become older, I have certainly recognised the need to remain fit and active alongside
busy lifestyles with juggling work and children; I really do appreciate the need for keeping
other people active and not restricted with their daily hobbies and busy lifestyles that are
essential.

I still enjoy playing football weekly, despite my wife’s better judgement, but it keeps me fit
and certainly a mental release from a busy lifestyle. I enjoying playing golf and paddle-
boarding; as well as spending time with my family. I really empathize with patients when they
are unable to live life to the fullest and will do my utmost best to provide them with the right
treatment advice and management to get them back on track."
